L’Aquàrium de Barcelona opened, twenty years ago, and since then research has been a major priority. Through this work, it has gained international recognition as a research centre. Particularly notable are the agreements L’Aquàrium has signed with various universities and research centres.

Divulgation of seabed communities and education are two of the most important tasks of the center since its inception, which has been dedicated to the study, conservation and protection of marine fauna.

L'Aquàrium de Barcelona is the largest Mediterranean-themed aquarium in the world. It is equipped  with 14 aquariums that represent the Mediterranean’s different marine communities. Since 2013 a Jellyfish exhibition is one of the main attractions of the Aquarium. The other main attraction in L'Aquàrium is the Oceanarium, with a transparent tunnel of 80 metres in length, thathouses the greatest number of species in almost 4 million litres of water. Behind the aquariums, a large team of highly-qualified professionals using the latest technology look after the wellbeing and health of over 11,000 sea creatures.

The building is equipped with an Auditorium and an the "Planet Aqua" room, where the selected posters will be exposed, allowing also the general public to look it. This new location has a great number of logistical advantages since it is located in front of the city harbour and next to the historic center of Barcelona.
